Lyrics meme!

Hello, all! At the suggestion of the ever-so-lovely and even-more-talented skyblue_reverie, I'm posting this song meme for your fun and enjoyment. :) I've listed a bunch of first lines of songs. See if you can guess the song from the line. Some are obvious, and some are obscure. If there are any of these lovelies you'd care to own for yourself, I'm happy to share! :D

No cheating, now! (i.e., no googling the song lyrics. *g*)
I'll follow Skyblue's example and strike out the ones that have been guessed as we go along.

       Leonard Cohen, "Take this Waltz"

In other news...

I'm currently working on the next batch of icons for the 100_house_icons challenge; the next 35 are just about ready to post.

Great fun...three Jeeves & Wooster books arrived in the mail today (purchases from eBay). I'll be settling in for some fun reading before bed tonight!

Beyond that, life continues as usual...work, kids, home, work, kids, home. Rinse and repeat. The latest hurdle is that my older son wants to drop out of college. Oh joy.

Let me know what you're up to these days!

ETA: I think the lyrics to Cohen's "Light as the Breeze" are some of the best EVAH. Amazing imagry and I LOVE "don't forget there's still a woman beneath this resplendent chemise." See what you think:

She stands before you naked
you can see it, you can taste it,
and she comes to you light as the breeze.
Now you can drink it or you can nurse it,
it don't matter how you worship
as long as you're
down on your knees.

So I knelt there at the delta,
at the alpha and the omega,
at the cradle of the river and the seas.
And like a blessing come from heaven
for something like a second
I was healed and my heart
was at ease.

O baby I waited
so long for your kiss
for something to happen,
oh something like this.

And you're weak and you're harmless
and you're sleeping in your harness
and the wind going wild
in the trees,
and it ain't exactly prison
but you'll never be forgiven
for whatever you've done
with the keys.

O baby I waited ...

It's dark now and it's snowing
O my love I must be going,
The river has started to freeze.
And I'm sick of pretending
I'm broken from bending
I've lived too long on my knees.

Then she dances so graceful
and your heart's hard and hateful
and she's naked
but that's just a tease.
And you turn in disgust
from your hatred and from your love
and comes to you
light as the breeze.

O baby I waited ...

There's blood on every bracelet
you can see it, you can taste it,
and it's Please baby
please baby please.
And she says, Drink deeply, pilgrim
but don't forget there's still a woman
beneath this
resplendent chemise.

So I knelt there at the delta,
at the alpha and the omega,
I knelt there like one who believes.
And the blessings come from heaven
and for something like a second
I'm cured and my heart
is at ease.

ETA: We have some guessed, but a lot still need a name and artist! I've added the next lines to each of the remaining choices.

ETA: Looks like everyone's done playing, so I've posted the answers. (I was a little surprised no one got 16 or 18.) Thanks for playing! :)

4. Natalie Merchant. "...shit, I know this...*hums* I must be one of the wonders...God's own creation... Damn, I know it has a title like 'Miracle' or something."
21. Peter Gabrial "In your eyes"
22. Beach Boys "Good Vibrations"

A lot of these are *REALLY* familiar, #23 in particular. Damn, I suck at this. :(

Yes, yes, and yes! Way to go, you! :)

Studying...anything interesting?

And how have you been lately, m'dear?

Hello! Yay! I got three! Three easy ones, but three!

Oh, I'm doing okay, hon. I'm studying microbiology, (sort of), but I'm not doing so hot on concentrating. Life has been good - stressful, but good.

Sorry to hear that about your oldest. As hard as finals are hitting me right now, I can't say I don't understand him, but no, probably not the best move on his part.

Best of luck with everything.

TAXMAN! I was going freakin' NUTS trying to remember that!

Fortunately, he's only looking to take a temporary break while he determines how to proceed with a change in major. My fear is that once he's out it will be too easy not to go back. But I can empathize with him; I dropped out after my second year because I just didn't feel I was in the right place at the right time. Problem was, I didn't go back until years later; I graduated college on the 25th anniversary of my high school graduation. But, the point is, I graduated eventually! :)

Good luck with your studies. You're nearing the end of semester, no?

Yep! Almost done!

Oh, taking a break! that's different. I'm actually taking a break next semester myself. Not by choice, mind you, but thanks to some royal screw ups regarding my vaccinations :p

And yes, that's very cool that you went back and finished! Yay!

05. You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life

Dancing Queen, Abba. Took me a while but the tune finally popped into my head. :)

08. Hey where did we go, days when the rains came down in the hollow

Brown Eyed Squirrel - Van Morrison, I think. Eor helped me.

23. Let me tell you how it will be, there’s one for you, nineteen for me.

Taxman - the Beatles.

25. We'll be fighting in the streets with our children at our feet and the morals that they worship will be gone

Won't get Fooled Again, The Who, but again I have to admit Eor helped me.

29. I ache for the touch of your lips, Dear, but much more for the touch of your whips, Dear.

The Masochism Tango, Tom Lehr.

Excellent work! Good job!

Heh...Masochism Tango. Never fails to make me laugh. Tom Lehrer was my first introduction to satirical humor, and he's still one of the best.

Brown Eyed Squirrel? :) Brown Eyed Girl. Hugh's favorite song because it reminds him of his Jo. Awwwwwww.

Yay, you!

Awwwww, how corny. ;) Yes, corny can be cute, when it's sincere. Eor sings it to me sometimes, too. :) And his Jo is as cute as a little squirrel.

Hee! She certainly is tiny, if nothing else. I'd never seen a photo of her prior to those shots of the 3 of them shopping in LA earlier this month. She's really just a little pixie, isn't she?

And I am so effing jealous. ;)

How are things going for you these days?

PS...Eor has good taste. :)

#1 is Music of the Night, Phantom of the Opera

#19 is Elton John, the really sad one about the guy dying of AIDS and his relationship with his father, but I can't place the name of the song.

#24 is Rock This Town by the Stray Cats

I knew a few that have already been guessed and a few more sound familiar. I'll keep thinking on it. This is so fun!

Yes, very good!

The Elton John song is "The Last Song." Gah, what a tear-jerker, but I love it.

It was fun pulling the list together. But holy hannah...so many of the songs I was originally going to include have the title in the first line! :)

Yes! The Last Song! Thank you, that was driving me crazy. I had the same problem with titles in the first line. :)

3 and 11 sound familiar to me, could I have another line?

G'night, m'dear!

Answers are all posted, so you can come satisfy your curiosity in case it needs satisfying. :)

Hope you had a good night's sleep. I've not been sleeping well lately; maybe I can catch up a bit this weekend. For me, now, it's time to go get some dinner!

I'm afraid that if I start taking lines, I'll end up asking for the entire string of lyrics, so no. ^_^;;

New with me? Nothing much, except for those superhero snippets I've been whittling away at. ;)
