After two weeks of waiting, the night of the state dinner had finally arrived. Tony had passed the time trying to keep his thoughts of Control under control but had not been particularly successful. And the past few days since Control had shared the news of his wife's leaving had caused particularly vivid thoughts to spring up in Tony's mind.

Tony was at the banquet, circulating through the happy hour crowd with a tray of champagne. He had been scanning the crowd for Control, looking for him to be dressed in the same waiter's uniform as he was himself. But so far, Control was nowhere to be found.

How odd, thought Tony. Control must be late, although that's not very like him at all. Perhaps I should ring him to make sure that nothing has happened to him. He began devising a plan to leave the crowd without being missed from the serving staff.

Suddenly, Tony's breath caught in his throat. There was Control, just entering the room. He looked deliciously handsome in his tuxedo, his dark silky hair falling ever so attractively over his forehead, a cigarette in his hand.

Tony was having trouble sorting his jumbled thoughts. Control was obviously undercover as a guest, which Tony hadn’t expected. He also hadn't expected to be so overwhelmed at the sight of Control. And he certainly hadn't expected to see a beautiful woman on his arm.

He had no idea who she was; he'd never seen her before. I can only surmise, thought Tony wistfully, that this is the person Mrs. Control mentioned in her letter—Control’s true love. They certainly look very happy. Control seems to be hanging on her every word. Tony let out a deep sigh.

Just then he wished he were anywhere but where he was.

Oh! So sad! Poor Tony. And eek, the suspense! Who's the woman? Ahh, I'm loving this series.

Hee! I'm really enjoying writing this, so I'm quite glad you're enjoying reading it!

The woman? Ah, the woman. All shall be revealed, my dear, all shall be revealed. ;)

first off..my apologies for not commenting on the last few, but know i'm eating this all up.

Silly Tony, you should know Control wouldn't arrive alone, if posing as a guest *hugs*

wonderful imagery as well!

No need to apologize; I'm glad to hear that you're still enjoying the series!

Thanks for all your wonderful compliments. And Tony is too besotted to think straight. Dang that woman!

Just...just as it gets to be good, the woman appears. Who is she? When will Tony get it through his head? *waits for the next one eagerly*

I think it won't be too much longer before Tony gets it; just a few more whacks with the angst stick should do it. Hee!

Oh No! Poor poor Tony! *tells Tony not to worry* I know you said twists but really... are you trying to kill the poor chap?! Poor Tony! But of course, he is working undercover - you should know that Tony you silly man! *sigh*!!!
Mar. 8th, 2007 01:05 am (UTC)
No, I'm not trying to kill him, just make sure that he really appreciates what he has when he finally gets it. And Tony does angst sooooooo well! :)

EEEeeee! Oh! I bounce with squeefulness!

The angst possibilities here are so lovely, and you just know Tony is going to spend the night covertly watching Control and thinking he's so happy with this woman, and trying his very best to be glad Control is happy. Even if it's killing him.

*pets Tony*

Yay! for squeeful bouncing! You're so right; Tony will be covertly coveting Control all night and trying to be happy for him. Control, on the other hand, will be in his own little angsty bubble. And the woman, on the other hand...

But, egads, I seem to have three hands here. ;)

*pats your shoulder* There, there, my dear.

Aw, poor Tony - getting dragged through the wringer backward. *pets him*

Hahaha...Love that expression! :)
Mar. 8th, 2007 12:35 pm (UTC)
Thanks. :) I just realized, I'm probably showing my age. I doubt many people younger than I am have actually used a wringer washer.

LOL! I had a job at a bed-and-breakfast hotel at the Jersey shore in my younger days, and they used a mangler, which is basically a wringer iron for pressing sheets.

Woo hoo for the oldies but goodies at LJ! *high five*

*high fives!*

(also "mangler" has got to be among the top five greatest names for a machine EVER.)

yeah, I always thought so, too. It was a son of a bitch to work, but when you got it right, man, those sheets were nice and crisp! :)
