Tutorial 4

From Tut4Before.png to HughGlasses.png with The GIMP 2.2.

I started with this cropped and scaled image from a recent photo of Hugh at the 18th Annual PGA Awards: Tut4Before.png.

Photo from house_daily.

01. Sharpen to 40.
02. I didn't like the the shadow of his head or the logos on the wall, so I used the eyedropper tool to grab
the main color of the wall and a circle 3 brush to paint over the shadow and logos.
03. Duplicate base, set to Screen 100%.
04. Duplicate screen layer, set to Overlay 100%.
05. New layer, 8fe1ff, set to Burn 100%.
06. New layer, bcc1bd, set to Overlay 100%.
07. Duplicate 8fe1ff layer, move to become top layer, set to Burn 40%.
08. New layer, 075b82, set to Overlay 50%.
09. New layer, ff7248, set to Overlay 50%.
10. New layer, mypainpics_text6.jpg texture from elliota at my_pain_pics, set to Normal 100%.
       Clear the black background.
       a. Use the Select By Color tool; click anywhere on the black.
       b. Click Edit, Clear.
11. Text was added on top, Agency FB Condensed, 14 pt., color 075b82.
12. Adjust the placement of the color box layer as desired in reference to text placement. I more or less
centered the boxes in the available remaining white space above the text.
13. Merge all layers being sure to clip to bottom layer.

This is how my Layers dialog looked after all was said and done:

Feedback? Yes, please! :D

:D bespectacled Hugh is my dork king.

Also, you really have got the hang of GimpShop. How long have you been using it again?

bespectacled Hugh is my dork king.
Agreed. He should wear them more often. :)

Thanks for the kind words! I guess I've been using GIMP for maybe a month or so. I've found a lot of good tutorials to learn the ropes, and then I just play around from there. So much fun!
